Hey, let’s grow.
Culturally-Sensitive Individual Therapy for Adults Navigating Trauma, Anxiety, and Identity
Not To Call You Out, But…
Does this sound like you?
You’re the one everyone goes to, but you have no idea who you’re supposed to lean on.
You grew up with two languages, but still can’t explain your feelings.
You’re constantly toggling between “grateful” and “burnt out.”
You laugh at your own trauma (…and then spiral later).
You want a therapist who gets cultural nuance, not one who just nods.
If you're nodding yes to any of the above, you're in the right place.
Hi, I’m Valeria Cuzzi-Marruffo, LPC, a trauma and anxiety therapist and founder of Hopecore Counseling.
I specialize in working with first-and second-generation adults who’ve had to be the strong one, the translator, the bridge between cultures—sometimes all before they were old enough to drive.

No, I only offer individual psychotherapy sessions. We may still explore relationship patterns, communication, and boundary goals during individual sessions.
-
I exclusively work with adults (ages 18 and older) as adult mental health is my primary scope of practice and clinical training.
I do not provide individual or family counseling services for toddlers, children, or adolescents.
If you are looking for therapeutic support for your child or want to do parent-child counseling, I’d be more than happy to provide resources and referrals to local youth and family specialists.
-
When in doubt, use SimplePractice! Also, contact the practice or your clinician for further confirmation.
SimplePractice is Hopecore Counseling’s main Electronic Health Record (EHR) system for scheduling appointments, telehealth video calls, uploading intake/clinical documents, submitting ROIs, outcome measures, billing administrative fees, and private pay invoicing.
Headway is a third-party platform used for insurance billing purposes only.
Scheduling appointments and telehealth calls are never held on Headway. Since Headway uses a calendar system for submitting claims, they also send automated appointment notices. But these are usually inaccurate for actual telehealth scheduling at this practice, due to recurring calendar setups.

My main focus is supporting first- and second generation individuals navigating cultural identity, family expectations, complex/generational trauma, and life transitions. However, I also work with clients from other backgrounds!
Effective therapy depends on the strong therapeutic connection and direction towards your goals, not just shared demographics.

NO. Clients must be located in the physical state of their therapist’s license. As I am only licensed in Virginia, you have to physically be in Virginia to meet for a session…Yes, even for telehealth (virtual) appointments.
This applies to insurance AND private clients!!!
This is a licensing law set by state governments, not a rule set by insurance companies. So private pay status does not bypass this. You must be physically in Virginia to meet for a virtual session.
